Green = Goodness
Green is the color of Life. As we consume things filled with life our bodies enjoy an increase of life as well. (FYI greasy potato chips are quite dead.
) One of the easiest ways to experience greater physical well-being is to start doing a daily green juice. It is a simple and powerful step towards healing.
Though it’s super easy, doing a green juice can be a bit intimidating at first because green is often associated with eating grass, the Hulk, and that weird little trashcan muppet on Sesame Street. I’m okay with the middle one but the other two are deal killers.
Enzymes: secret power of the leafy green!
Joking aside, I think green foods (kale, romaine lettuce, broccoli, etc), are snubbed and quickly dismissed in our culture. We either doubt the power of the leafy green or we doubt that we have a need for it.
So what do green foods offer us that make them so valuable to our bodies? Well, that would be enzymes.
Enzymes help to digest and break down our food. They are instrumental in detoxing and absorbing nutrients as well as defying the aging process.
The body has a limited number of enzymes which, to enjoy good health, must stay replenished. But every time we eat something that is processed and “dead” (non-food – containing no enzymes – i.e. fast food, baked goods with enriched flour, items with refined sugar or high fructose corn syrup, greasy snack foods, soft drinks, etc) our bodies have to steal enzymes from itself in order to break the non-food down. This takes it’s toll and slowly undermines your overall health.
Drinking green juice is an effective way to fill up your enzyme stores as well as enjoy increased energy, glowing skin, a healthy weight, reduced cravings, and a strong immune system!
Craving Green
Everyone needs healing. With the Standard American Diet (aka S.A.D – ironic isn’t it?) being the way it is we are hard-pressed to get what are bodies crave in the way of healthful foods. Sure we’ve got cravings – but we satisfy them with absolute garbage. How often do we eat something processed and dead when we could have had something fresh and alive? What’s the ratio? The numbers do add up.
Eat for life and you will see a positive difference in how you feel. Your body always builds towards health. Better food = better health. Better health = better life! It is possible to enjoy a higher quality of life, be empowered to experience it!
Get your feet wet with a green smoothie!
If you’re intrigued by the benefits of green juice but aren’t sold on the actual “drinking of it”, try a green smoothie! The smoothies are fruity and yummy with a handful of green thrown in somewhere.
It will turn the smoothie a green color but it’ll taste like a cold and refreshing, fruit smoothie. Perfect for summertime slurpin’.
Green Smoothie
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 banana
3 romaine lettuce leaves, washed well
5 whole, frozen strawberries
1 big handful baby spinach
1 cup ice-cubes
Combine all ingredients in blender and process until smooth. Pour into a fun glass, slap a straw in, and slurp it up!
Include some flaxseed meal or chia seeds for added nutritional power. Try frozen blueberries and other frozen fruit blends (a tropical blend with mango, papaya and pineapple is delicious) to make different flavors. Keep in mind that fruit is high in natural sugar and is still very sweet. Aim for slowly increasing the amount of greens you add in while decreasing the fruit.

I would’ve never thought of adding romaine! What timing–I just made a kale smoothie this morning. I can’t wait to try your recipe! Thanks for linking up!
Yes the romaine gives it a smoother and sweeter taste. Awesome! Kale is one of my faves – I use it a lot in my green juices. Happy sipping!
I love green smoothies! Depending on the day I add spinach or swiss chard to add the beautiful green colour!
My son is the one who has gotten me started on making smoothies. Of course, I don’t believe he is aware of the nutritional value contained in each glass. He’s a teenager, and ‘smoothies’ are the big thing in his age group right now. It makes it quite easy for me. This is a great recipe for us to try! Thanks for sharing ☺ I would like to invite you to share your recipe in our recipe hop this week. It is a weekly event and will be open until midnight tonight if you can make it. ☺
I have never had a green smoothie before. This one looks really good, I will have to try it sometime. Thanks for sharing at Showcase Your Talent Thursday. I hope to see you at the next party!

I know how healthy green drinks are but I just didn’t get myself to do it. Why? Don’t know. I guess I like to have all the other info on what kind of a diet to include. Shame on me. It sounds good. Thank you.
We may have met by chance…but we become friends by choice.
